Defining Capacity for a Production Family
Previous Topic  Next Topic

The reported maximum capacity for a production family must take into account the ability to produce all parts in the group.  For example if you have 3 parts in the group, and you have the ability to produce annually 1000 pieces of Part 1,  2000 pieces of Part 2 and 3000 pieces or Part 3, then your Reported Max Capacity would be 6000 pieces per year.

Once reported maximum capacity of your production family is defined, it is necessary to understand how much working time is used to achieve that maximum capacity.

Let's begin.

With the Capacity Input tab selected:

  1. Enter your Reported Max Capacity with appropriate units of measure selected.  Yellow indicates a required field
  2. Enter Shifts per Week.
  3. Enter Hours per Shift.
  4. Enter Days per Week.
  5. Enter Weeks per Year.
  6. Enter the Reported Date by clicking the today button or if reported date is other than today's date use the calendar icon. The reported date identifies when the capacity has last been updated.
  7. Click Calculate to view annual capacity results. See Calculator Tool.
  8. Click the Resource Constraints tab to proceed to the next step. Defining Resource Constraints for a Production Family.
